What's this  you say? New York has a sugar tax? Does this have anything to do with NYC not wanting people to buy big sodas? NO. It has something to do with a BIG chain of stores thinking they know everything. Who did it and what their punishment is.

New York has settled a false advertising probe with Walmart, over an alleged fake "sugar tax."  State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman yesterday announced that the retail chain has agreed to pay nearly 70-thousand dollars, stemming from a nationwide soda sale in June.  When New Yorkers tried to buy 12-packs of Coca-Cola drinks for three-dollars as advertised, they were routinely charged an extra 50-cents. Investigators said some consumers who complained were falsely told the state has a "sugar tax." The alleged markup of more than 16 percent violated state laws. Wal-Mart ran a similar sale in March, and 66,000 12-packs of Coca-Cola have been sold in New York at an inflated price, this according to the NYS AG press release. The settlement requires Wal-Mart to pay more than $66,000 and improve internal reporting. The settlement covers all 177 Walmarts across New York.
