Pennsylvania's cigarette tax will increase on August 1st as part of their newly enacted budget.

With the newly enacted budget, the per-pack tax on cigarettes will rise from $1 to $2.60. Counting a $2 per-pack tax in Philadelphia in 2014 to help fund city schools.

Right now Pennsylvania is tied for 23rd highest with Ohio and Delaware. When the tax takes effect on August 1st, Pennsylvania will be the 10th highest in the Nation for cigarette tax. The tax is projected to generate roughly $430 million to balance the budget.

Many New York residents choose to drive over the border to get cigarettes, as New York has the second highest tax on cigarettes in the Nation according to a Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

For those who do cross over into Pennsylvania to purchase cigarettes, will it be worth the drive anymore?
