Well damn.

The news broke late last night that Scott Weiland may have passed on, and we were hoping the reports were wrong but, at around 1am, Scott Weiland's own Facebook page confirmed what we had been hearing for a few hours.

Scott Weiland was the front man and lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver and various other side projects including his latest, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts.

The legacy he leaves behind is one of the most influential vocalists of the past 30 years. With Stone Temple Pilots, he helped make popular the grunge alternative sound with the release of their first album "Core" in 1992. Their meteoric rise to stardom began almost instantaneously, as they toured and opened for bands such as Rage Against The Machine and culminated with an incredible appearance on "MTV Unplugged" in 1993.

STP's 2nd album "Purple" was released in 1994, and their second single "Interstate Love Song", reached #1 on the Mainstream Rock Music Charts on Billboard and stayed there for over 3 months.

As Stone Temple Pilots released more music, their sound continued to evolve. They would release 3 more albums before going on hiatus. Scott would move onto the act "Velvet Revolver" and achieve more success, especially when the band received the 2005 Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance with "Slither".

There are no reports as to the cause of death, but many are speculating that it had to do with his personal story of addiction. There had been many accounts of his drug use, but as of 2014 Weiland had claimed that was all in his past.

Scott leaves behind his wife, photographer Jamie Wachtel whom he married in 2013 and 2 children, Noah and Lucy, from a previous marriage.

Scott Weiland was just 48.

He will be missed.
