Westchester County is looking for some high school and college students to develop mobile apps for the county. Westchester county is hoping that students can create an app that will improve the daily lives of seniors, 65 years and older. The focus during last year's first annual Westchester app development bowl was on creating apps for Alzheimer's and Dementia patients. Students wanting to take part in the event that's put on by the county and Pace University, must register by February 12th. Prizes include cash rewards and paid internships.

Here is info from www.pace.edu regarding eligibility requirements:

  • This Contest is open to both high school and college students attending schools in Westchester County, NY, and the tri-state area.
  • Students must be enrolled in school full-time.
  • There is no age limit for participating students.
  • Students under 18 years old by March 1, 2016, are required to obtain parental / guardian permission to participate.
  • Students are not required to have any technology skills or experience to participate.
  • Students must register as a team. This means a team must have at least two (2) student members. It is recommended that a team comprise of three (3) to five (5) students. There is no cap on the number of students on a team.
  • Students from different schools may register as a team. This means that students are not limited to being teammates with students of the school they attend. Teams may have a combination of high school and college students.
  • Students who are interested in competing but are having difficulty in finding or creating a team are encouraged to register (see the section on registration instructions). Efforts will be made to place these students on a team.
  • More than one team per school is allowed to participate.
  • Teams must have at least one adult advisor who will serve as the team coach and mentor.
  • The adult advisor must be 18 years old or older. It is not required for the advisor to have an official affiliation with a school. It is recommended, but not required, that the advisor have experience in the STEM disciplines.
  • Teams are encouraged to register their intent to participate as early as possible to receive updates about the Contest and take advantage of the resources and training available.
