A $10 Million Investment

New York State has announced a significant investment of $10 million to promote the construction of zero-emission homes across the region. The Building Better Homes – Zero Emission Homes for Healthier Communities program aims to incentivize the design and construction of clean, resilient single-family homes and townhomes. This initiative not only supports builders but also enhances indoor air quality and overall living conditions for New Yorkers.

Goals for a Sustainable Future

The funding is a crucial part of the state’s broader strategy to transform the housing market, reduce emissions, and decrease reliance on fossil fuels. By encouraging zero-emission construction, the program seeks to create comfortable living environments while making strides toward sustainability.

Incentives and Support for Builders

Administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), this program offers funding on a first-come, first-served basis to builders committed to creating zero-emission homes. The base incentive is up to $7,000 per single-family home and $4,000 for townhomes, with additional benefits for projects in disadvantaged communities. Builders will also receive training and technical support to ensure compliance with clean energy standards.

Enhancing Community Health

Zero-emission homes are designed to improve indoor air quality, which can significantly reduce asthma and allergy risks. Modern appliances and systems enhance energy efficiency, providing residents with more comfortable living conditions. Furthermore, these homes are built to remain operable during power outages, incorporating resilient features that ensure continuous functionality.

Commitment to Climate Goals

This initiative aligns with New York's ambitious climate agenda, which includes achieving two million climate-friendly homes by 2030. With over 10,000 new homes built annually, advancing zero-emission construction is essential for meeting state emissions targets. This funding represents a crucial step in New York's journey toward a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for all residents.
