On Tuesday around 1:50 p.m., the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit investigated a two-car motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Route 44 at Tamarack Hill Drive.

A 2006 Volkswagen GTI, driven by 22 year-old Andrew V. Davis from Poughkeepsie, crossed the double yellow line and hit a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder head on.

A police investigation revealed that Davis lost control of his car before it crossed over the double yellow lines on Route 44 in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

Davis was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Nissan, a 68-year-old man from Millbrook, and his passenger, a 68-year-old woman from Millbrook, were transported to Vassar Brothers Hospital. Both are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone that may have witnessed the accident is asked to call the Traffic Enforcement Unit at 845-485-3680.

A section of Route 44 was closed for nearly six hours during the accident reconstruction. The police department was assisted by the Arlington Fire District and Mobil Life Ambulance.
