I genuinely want to know the answer to this question, and I don't want this to come off the wrong way, but...

where the hell do you want me to go?

A bit of background information that might be helpful to better understand my question. When you're traveling (above the posted speed limit) on a one lane per direction road, double yellow, and there's a line of cars ahead of you, but the person behind you is weaving, flashing their lights, sometimes honking or throwing up their favorite finger, I ask again:

where the hell do you want me to go?

Twice In A 24-Hour Time Frame, Is It Me?

After a particularly long Sunday, which wrapped with me taking my almost 10-year old to a "Taylor Swift Sing-A-Long" show in Peekskill, I was already a little high strung driving home. I encountered some feisty drivers on the ride that had my blood boiling, but tried not to let it come in the way of what was a mother-daughter bonding experience...that was until the angry guy behind me passed on a double yellow going around a turn. I got a similar sign of affection shown in the photo below as he barely made it between my bumper and the rear bumper of the car ahead of me.

But then it happened again, this morning, before 9am on a completely different road, people driving insanely behind me, riding so close that I could no longer see their headlights, and it made me think, maybe there's a rule of the road i'm not aware of.

Rt. 9 In/Out of Peekskill, Rt. 299 In/Out of New Paltz

If you're familiar with the Hudson Valley, chances are you know these two stretches of road; single-lane Rt. 9 when you pass what remains of the Dutchess Mall heading towards Cold Spring and into Putnam Valley, and then the reverse trip from Westchester back into Dutchess County.

On the other side of the river, leaving New Paltz and heading towards Highland on 299, or the reverse trip into New Paltz coming from 9W once you make the turn onto 299. There are stretches where passing is permitted, but most of the time you're in line with everyone else...

If there is a double yellow, and there's a line of traffic ahead of me, honking, flashing, yelling, weaving...well it isn't going to make me go anywhere else, or any faster...because where am I supposed to go?

My car does not fly.

I am not the line leader, nor am I doing 15MPH in a 45; i'm going with the flow of traffic.

I too would rather not be in the conga-line of cars, but yet here I am, trying to act like a decent human being, unlike you.

So, as I prepare to take on what fun my ride home today might bring from a fellow Hudson Valley commuter, I ask again, when I find myself in that situation where there's absolutely no other option....where, and I emphasize this next part, the hell, am I supposed to go?

Speaking of things you might see on Hudson Valley roadways...
