It's a little early to start using the 'S' word, but the reality is school will be back in session before you know it. The United Way of Dutchess-Orange have put together a backpack drive to help help those in need have the supplies needed to start the school year on the right note.

The goal is to provide backpacks full of supplies to children in need who will be starting kindergarten in the fall. There are several ways to lend a hand. You can donate supplies or money or start your own drive at your business or civic organization. The following items are needed for donation.

  • Crayons
  • Pencils/Erasers
  • Markers
  • Glue
  • Child-safe scissors
  • Notebooks

An Amazon Wishlist has been set up which makes it very easy to shop and ship directly to The United Way. Donations can also be dropped off at their Poughkeepsie or Montgomery offices during business hours. Online donations can be made HERE. Donations will be accepted through close of business on Friday August 12th. Any questions can be directed to Rebecca Lull at rlull@uwdor.org.
