Beekman Pharmacy are the latest victims in a string of pharmacy robberies that have been happening in Dutchess County.

Beekman Pharamcy is a very cute spot located in Poughquag, New York. I've been inside a few times and it's a really great little spot nestled in Dutchess County. There's something very quaint about it and it's one of those nice small town stores.

Something strange has been going on in the area and it started this this Sunday. It was recently reported that the The Hopewell Drugstore in Hopewell Junction was reportedly broken into and now there was an attempted break-in at the Beekman Pharmacy.

What recently happened at the Beekman Pharmacy?

According to the Beekman Pharmacy Facebook, on early Sunday morning the front door was damaged as a result of a break-in. How awful, residents have been confused, concerned and don't understand why this keeps happening.

Thankfully, the incident allegedly took place after hours, no one was at the store and most importantly no one was hurt.

Beekman Pharmacy did mention that they are still operating under normal business hours and have thanked the community for their support during this difficult time. We are thinking of both the Beekman Pharmacy/The Hopewell Drug Store and sending our support to both businesses.

How can you prevent a robbery from happening at your store in the Hudson Valley?

I hate to think negatively, but if you are a business owner there are some extra steps you can take to try to prevent yourself and your business from being a victim of a robbery/break-in. Here are some tips to be mindful of:

  • Good lighting-extra light and less darkness can make someone think twice about picking your place of business for a robbery
  • Have an alarm system/video surveillance- everyone needs this today
  • Do NOT leave anything valuable out that can be seen through the window
  • Have a well-maintained exterior-this creates less place to hide and less coverage for people trying to enter the store
  • Triple checked everything is locked when the business is closing

Be careful, lock everything and if something bad happens at a local business show them some extra love.
