While it's no secret that the Hudson Valley is a major destination for New York tourism, it's not every day that a tourist checks in with local residents before their trip. Recently, a Facebook post has the whole area talking.

"Hi, I’m from Australia looking to come to the Hudson Valley for 3 days later this year after a full on week in NYC", began a post from a soon-to-be tourist (below). "I’m in awe of your beautiful part of the world and welcome any recommendations on where to stay".  Hundreds of answers came rolling in.

Best Tourist Attractions in the Hudson Valley, NY

The biggest surprise of the 500-plus comments that were written by born-and-bred Hudson Valley residents was that there weren't many surprises. While there is plenty of local bellyaching about the crowds of visitors "invading" spaces like Main Street in Beacon or the famous Breakneck Ridge hiking trail, those suggestions were some of the most popular. Visit Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck, NY

One of the most famous destinations in Dutchess County is the Beekman Arms & Delamater Inn in Rhinebeck, NY. Not only is it the oldest continually-running Inn in the United States, but there's dining and entertainment on site as well. It would make the perfect destination for any tourist looking to see both the beauty and history of the Hudson Valley.

Hike Mohonk and Minnewaska in the Hudson Valley, NY

For hiking destinations, both Mohonk and Minnewaska were on the top of the suggestion pile (again, no real surprise). While Mohonk offers lodging and food alongside their hiking trails that lead to the famous sky top tower, tourists looking to spend more time at Minnewaska were recommended to try the Minnewaska Lodge for accommodations.

The Most Popular Places to Visit in the Hudson Valley, NY

Some more of the most popular suggestions included the Walkway Over the Hudson, exploring Cold Spring, and a visit to the Culinary Institute of America. There were, however, a few lesser-known suggestions that could make any tourists' visit even more special.

Hidden Gems in the Hudson Valley, NY

Gunk Haus in Highland, NY was recommended not only for their food, but for the amazing views from their patio (above), and the Barn at Levi Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY was mentioned as a can't-miss musical experience. One local resident was able to sum up the general sentiment of the group rather well: "Do the week in the Hudson Valley... 3 days in the city... thank me later", they quipped.
