Bears are everywhere in the Hudson Valley. And while it isn't exactly news when one is spotted in the wilderness, it can be an issue when they're hanging around where there are people.

According to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, a black bear was sighted before dawn Wednesday, near Main Street and Raymond Avenue. The bear was seen hanging around near the Holy Trinity Church.

Most are smart enough to take the necessary precautions, but the New York State DEC reminds everyone to clean up outside by removing bird feeders, don't leave bags or bowls of pet food out, and keep garbage cans in a secure area.

Report bear sightings to the New Paltz DEC Office at 845-256-3098.

Of course, don't approach the bear. They're usually more scared of humans but don't take any chances.
