One of the biggest critical successes of the year has been the new movie from comedian Bo Burnham. Eighth Grade, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, tells the story of a young girl going through her last week of junior high school. And that junior high school just happens to be located right here in the Hudson Valley.

According to lohud.com, Eighth Grade was filmed at Suffern Middle School last summer (and, the website speculates, at least one scene in the trailer looks like it takes place at the Palisades Mall). Several Suffern Middle School teachers and students are actually used as extras in the movie, too.

I've been a fan of Burnham for years, and making a movie that tells this story seems both like a natural next step for him and completely different from anything he's ever done. The movie opened in limited release a couple weeks ago, where it saw great success - it's been expanding slowly since, and will be released nationwide this Friday, August 3rd. Will you be checking it out?
