This may not be something that you regularly take note of during your regular travels across the Hudson Valley, but for those who rely on public transportation, this seemingly small gesture can certainly go a long way. There are two new bus shelters, the first of more in the works, that were recently installed in Wappinger.

Bus Shelter Installation in Wappinger

Two new (to the town) bus shelters have been installed in Wappinger. A free donation to the Town nine years ago, the shelters have been sitting in storage since, and following a great deal of collaboration between current leadership under the director of Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini, two shelters have been installed.

The shelters were gifted to Wappinger by the Federal Goverenment, and with that comes some restrictions with regard to ADA compliance, so it took some work to ensure proper installation and receiving the appropriate permits.

The bus shelters were provided to the Town nine years ago. I got them up. These are the only two locations right now at Mesier and Wappinger Plaza. Because they were given by the Federal Government, there are restrictions with where they can go and that they must be ADA compliant. Town Supervisor Cavaccini credits 'the incredible partnership with Dutchess County Public Transit and the dedicated efforts of Michael and Amanda' for helping to move the project along.

Where Are the Wappinger Bus Shelters?

Two prominent locations are the first of hopefully more to come across Wappinger that will offer shelter for residents waiting for the bus.

These are the only two locations right now at Mesier Park and Wappinger Plaza (on Route 9 in front of Hannaford).

Town Supervisor Cavaccini has shared that this project is part of the continued commitment for a more connected Wappinger.

No more shopping cart benches along our sidewalks, our residents now have a safe, attractive, and comfortable place to sit and wait for the bus, and this is just the beginning of our commitment to a more connected Wappinger.
