World Cup Star Returns ‘Home’ for Field Dedication in Wappinger
More than 200 lucky campers across the Wappingers area had a pretty special, once-in-a-lifetime experience on Tuesday, July 8th. How incredible that a global superstar, and hometown soccer hero who now plays for AFC Bournemouth, and has represented Team USA in the World Cup, brought it back to his Hudson Valley roots, spending the day with local campers.
Oh, and not to mention, the Town of Wappinger dedicated the hometown field he grew up playing on to him as well.

Tyler Adams Day at Town of Wappinger Summer Camp
I'm a parent of a Town of Wappinger summer-camp kid, and a text message regarding an exciting update for camp came through late Sunday afternoon. After clicking the link, my daughter and I discovered the news that campers were going to have a special day on Tuesday 7/8, Tyler Adams Day at Martz Field.
Campers were informed that Tyler would be on hand, some of the older campers would be given the opportunity to participate in a soccer clinic led by Tyler along with the Wappingers United Soccer Club, there would be lunch and t-shirts from Scotts Miracle-Gro for all participants, and a field dedication ceremony as well.

There was such a buzz on Tuesday morning at the camp, with the space transformed to welcome Tyler back home. Camp goers, along with their parents were greeted by many Town of Wappinger officials and local first responders on hand, decorative bunting around the field, as fans (of all ages) were full of excitement to spend some time with a local legend who got his soccer start in Wappinger.
As shown in the video below, Tyler spent a great deal of time interacting with the kids, hosting a soccer clinic (photo above) signing autographs, and returning back to the field where he once trained and prepared to eventually play for the New York Red Bulls, the US Mens National Soccer Team, and currently for AFC Bournemouth.
Wappinger Town Supervisor Joseph D. Cavaccini, a childhood friend and classmate of Adams, shared the following:
What makes Tyler’s story even more powerful is that it began right here — on this field — often with his mother by his side, supporting every sprint, every kick, and every dream. His story is one that young athletes in Wappinger — and across the nation — can look to for hope, inspiration, and determination.
Soccer Superstar Tyler Adams Celebrated with Field Dedication in Hometown
In addition to the clinic, autographs, and general celebration at Martz Field, the day was commemorated with a dedication of the field, or soccer pitch, to Tyler Adams.
In his address to the crowd, Town Supervisor Cavaccini announced that this September, thanks to the generosity of Scotts Miracle-Gro, and the efforts of Tyler Adams and his family, the field would be-resodded and enhanced at no cost to the town.
This underutilized field will be transformed into a multi-purpose state-of-the-art facility that will serve generations of Wappinger residents.

Cavaccini went on to talk about the revitalization of the parks and recreational facilities across the town over the past year or so.
Today we gather to celebrate, uplift, and support the next generation of athletes and dreamers here in Wappinger. This is a moment of connection — a bridge between what has been accomplished and what is yet to come. Over the last year, the Town of Wappinger has undergone a remarkable transformation. Our administration’s commitment to revitalizing our parks and recreational facilities has been fueled by a collective vision to create environments where young people can grow, flourish, and build their own legacies. And I can proudly say that through strong public-private partnerships such as the one we celebrate today, we are just getting started.
What an incredible day for the Town of Wappinger, and for the camp-goers who shared the field with a soccer icon.
