Confusion After Car Nearly Drives of New Paltz, NY Embankment
Disaster was narrowly averted this week in New Paltz, NY when a car came within inches of driving off an elevated parking lot on Water St.
The community is still searching for answers after the narrow miss, although some allegations have already been leveled. The accident, which left the rogue Prius hanging off a ledge nearly 10 feet tall, was the talk of the town.

The incident on Monday, October 2nd, was minimally destructive, although photos (above and below) show just how easily it could have turned into a serious emergency situation. Not only did the driver avoid careening off the embankment, but pedestrians were reportedly walking near the retaining wall at the time of the event.

"[The accident is] not surprising. It’s bound to happen with a spot like that. Was it human error or the soaked ground?", came the first query in the New Paltz Community Group Facebook page. "I didn't even consider the soaked ground. My best guess was 'I thought it was in reverse'" ventured another resident. The answer may be more serious.
Eye Witness Accounts
Witnesses observed the unidentified female driver allegedly speaking with police and undergoing what witnesses described as a potential field sobriety test. Witnesses also say the driver was driven away in the back of a police car.
