Some adorable fugitives are on the mooove, and New York State Police (NYSP) are asking the public's help.

In the best news that I've personally heard all day, six (more) cows are on the loose in the Hudson Valley after escaping from an overturned tractor trailer. It continues a fantastic trend in New York of farm animals taking their fates into their own hands.

More Cows on the Loose in the Hudson Valley

The recent ordeal began on the evening of October 20th in Deerpark, NY. The tractor trailer was travelling west on Interstate 84 when the driver reported he experienced brake failure, and attempted to exit the busy roadway. From the NYSP:

The vehicle exited 84 at exit 1 and made a left turn onto U.S. Route 6 when it struck a guiderail and overturned coming to rest on its side. 15 cows were able to escape because of the damage to the trailer.

While 9 of the cows were captured, six still remain missing. If this story sounds familiar, it may be because of another brave cow who delayed commuters travelling to New York City when it took to the train tracks.

Ricardo the Bull Escapes from Captivity

Back in December 2023, a young bull named Ricardo escaped captivity and began trotting down the New Jersey Transit rail line (below). Ricardo was thankfully captured and released to a local animal sanctuary... but what will happen to the Hudson Valley Six?

What Will Happen to Escaped Hudson Valley Cows?

If their story ends in anyway similar to the six cows who famously escaped a slaughterhouse in Saint Louis, MO several years ago (below), they have a bright future ahead of them. Those lucky animals found a home at the Gentle Barn in Ditmer, MO.

Call me a sucker for an underdog story, but I love to see animals seemingly take their destiny into their own hands (hooves?). New Yorkers are encouraged to contact the NYSP with any information about the current cow fugitives... although maybe just give them disguises and let them live in your backyard instead?

Horse In A New York Backyard Pool?! See The Dramatic Rescue Photos

God Bless our amazing First Responders. They have to see and react to unique situations every day to save not just human lives, but also those of our four-legged friends. This past weekend a horse-faced a life or death situation after getting caught in the cover in someone's backyard pool in Bohemia, New York. Thankfully, the Bohemia Fire Department came to the rescue.
