Hopefully this Hudson Valley hawk will be soaring again in no time.

Every week, the Department of Environmental Conservation releases highlights from the missions that Environmental Conservation Officers go on across New York State. The lower Hudson Valley saw some action this week when ECOs received a call about an injured Hawk.

Back on March 16, officers Wes Leubner and Tony Drahms were contacted by the Harrison Police Department after a hawk was recently clipped by a motor-vehicle. When the officers responded, they were met by a New York State Thruway staff member who originally moved the injured hawk from the busy road. Leubner and Drahms determined it was a red tail hawk and couldn't fly due to a broken wing. The officers brought the hawk to the Brewster Veterinary Hospital for further evaluation and care. According to the highlights, the hawk will later be transferred to the bird rehab facility, Green Chimneys in Brewster.

Green Chimneys is a bird rehab facility that also works with children to "maximize their full potential by providing residential, educational, clinical and recreational services, in a safe and supportive environment that nurtures connections with their families, the community, animals and nature," according to its website.
