Delaware County Dog Goes Missing, July 2023

Family of Argos the dog shared that on July 4th 2023, he, and his 11-year-old canine sister escaped their owner, running to chase after a cat that was headed into the woods, and never returned home.

The family searched frantically to find their pups; less than two weeks later the brown pitbull found her way home, but without Argos.

The search for Argos never stopped, well until just this week one of the family members came across a post from the Ulster County SPCA regarding a dog that was recently found in Napanoch, NY just off Rt. 55, approximately 70 miles from where he went missing.

Lost Pitbull Found in Napanoch, NY, 50+ Miles From Home

On January 14th, the Ulster County SPCA shared a photo of a while pitbull classified as a 'stray' was found in the area of Nappy Home Mobile Park off 55 in Napanoch. The dog did not have an ID, collar, or a chip when he was found by the local Dog Control Officer. This information was also shared to Lost Pets of the Hudson Valley.

Thankfully, Argos' owner's son spotted the UCSPCA post, and a heartwarming, tearful and joyful family reunion followed on Sunday, January 14th.

In speaking with Gina Carbonari, Executive Director of the Ulster County SPCA regarding Argos, his journey, and his happy return, she shared the following:

This is why we share lost animals on social media - this is the 'good part' of social media being able to reunite Argos with his family after quite the journey. This story also reinforces how important it is to microchip your pets, because everyone thinks something like this would never happen to their animal. The UCSPCA clinic offers low cost microchipping for all animals.

Argos is finally safe at home with his canine sister and human father.

In sharing the story about Argos finding his way home, UCSPCA pointed out the distance that he traveled during his six months missing.

Argos traveled quite a distance during that time, and we can only imagine who and what he encountered, including our recent snow storm! But now he is finally back with his loving family, including his canine best buddy. His is a story of never giving up - both him in his survival and his family in their quest to find him. Although he may look a little rough in his "lost" photo, it's understandable considering how long he has been lost.
