Detective John Falcone was remembered today in a memorial ceremony at the Poughkeepsie train station. Thursday marked the fifth anniversary of his death. He died heroically in the line of duty after saving the life of a young child.

Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison shared a memory of seeing Detective Falcone that morning. Falcone did not see Rolison's friendly wave while stopped at the intersection of Cherry Street and the Arterial. It was just a few hours later that Detective Falcone was shot and tragically killed. The girl he saved that day was just 3 years old at the time. The girl's father, 27-year-old Lee Welch, had just shot and killed her mother Jessica. The two were estranged at the time.

The memorial was attended by more than 150 police officers and other members of the community. A moment of silence was observed at 1:07 in his memory. Detective Falcone's sacrifice will always be remembered.
