You either hate them or love them, but Hot Dogs are an American treasure. Mystery meat be damned!

Now you can correct be at any point in this post if I'm wrong, but Dallas Hot Wiener's is home to the best hot dogs in the Hudson Valley and maybe even in New York state. They have locations in Kingston, Saugerties, Lake Katrine and Albany.

Dallas Hot Wiener's has been in business for over 85 years and continues to please our palates. According to their website they are "famous for our sauce, made from a secret family recipe." They continue to explain that some secrets are meant to be kept, but did I just come across their secret recipe?

While scrolling through Facebook a link for All Recipes.Com came up. The title reads "Texas Hot Wiener Sauce (Ulster County New York Style)."

"Texas Hot Wiener" plus an Ulster County reference has our ears ringing.

If you want to test the recipe and see if it measures up to the secret sauce at Dallas Hot Wiener, this is what you'll need:

And this is how you prepare the Texas Hot Wiener Sauce:

Grind hot dogs into a chunky paste in a food processor and place into a large saucepan. Mix cornstarch with 1 cup water in a small bowl and set aside. Pour 7 more cups water over the hot dogs. Stir in vinegar, paprika, chili powder, sea salt, red pepper flakes, oregano, onion powder, cinnamon, white pepper, and black pepper and bring to a boil.

Simmer over low heat until the sauce is slightly thickened, about 30 minutes. Gradually stir in reserved cornstarch mixture and simmer for 15 more minutes. Adjust salt and black pepper. Sauce will be thinner than chili and will thicken as it cool.

If you're looking to debunk or confirm the Dallas Hot Wiener secret sauce, let us know and we'll gladly come over for a taste test.
