How a New York Dog Ended Up Stranded on an Island
A dog with a spirit for adventure gave their owner the scare of a lifetime this week in upstate New York when a series of ridiculous events led to the adorable golden retriever stranded on a small island.
While the story has a happy ending (keep scrolling for the moment recue crews pulled their boat up to the stranded pooch), how the dog ended up in the predicament in the first place is both impressive and hilarious.
Animal Rescues in New York State
First responders across New York State are accustomed to rescues of all types, including the occasional call for a stranded animal. From the Hudson Valley rescue of a dog from the bottom of a crevice to untangling deer from backyard accessories, the variety is endless.

The recent island rescue seemed to be due to the retriever's sense of adventure. As its owner described, the dog made several rash decisions that eventually landed them stranded and in need of professional assistance.
Katonah Fire Department Rescues Dog Stranded on Island
"This afternoon, KFD responded to a report of a dog in the water", began a recent post from the Katonah Fire department (below). "Crews met the dog’s owner, who said her dog had jumped out of her car and off the overpass into the reservoir. The dog swam to a nearby island but needed a boat rescue."
Video (above) shows the KFD approaching the dog who seemed quite eager to be out of a situation that was totally of their own making. Patiently waiting on the shore, the dog seemed a far cry from the one who had jumped out of a car and off of a bridge.

As mentioned, New York dogs have found themselves in some particularly precarious situations. From a rescue on the frozen Hudson River to a extraction from a deep crevice in Minnewaska State Park below.
