One of the many animal rehab places I follow on social media recently had a story about an owl I have to share. Not just because this poor owl could use your help, but also because there is a lesson in it.

Back on May 5th, the Lucky Rehabilitation Center in Spencertown, New York, posted about an owl in their care. The short version is that the little guy is lucky to be alive. The story doesn't say how, but apparently, the owl was injured by a chainsaw.

Flattop, as they now call him, apparently had his head almost taken off by a chainsaw. It wasn't shared how that might have happened, but if I had to venture a guess, I would say he was in a tree that was being cut up or cut down.

As you can see from the photo shared, the poor little guy looks like he barely has a head anymore. That didn't stop Lucky Rehabilitation Center from coming to his rescue. Flattop is an Eastern Screech Owl who are commonly found in this area of New York.

Since he was featured as the Patient of the Day, Flattop has continued to improve. If you are not too squeamish, you can watch the video below of him being able to eat food again.

So you may be asking what's the lesson in all this I mentioned earlier, simple: Don't give up. Obviously, the folks at Lucky Rehabilitation Center aren't giving up, and neither is Flattop. Fingers crossed he keeps improving.
