Even more stories are being shared by Hudson Valley residents who say they've been affected by the recent billing error recognized by E-ZPass and the New York State Bridge Authority.

On Tuesday, October 14th, the NYSBA acknowledged the error, which they characterized as a "billing issue" for New York State E-ZPass users currently enrolled in their commuter plan. Now, residents from counties across the Hudson Valley are relaying their personal experiences.

Hudson Valley Residents Share Experience with Recent E-ZPass Error

The anecdotal accounts range from claims of being erroneously charged for unused bridge crossings (the NYSBA commuter plan requires a minimum number crossings per moth to avoid penalty fees) to multiple charges for the same trip and more, with some E-ZPass users sharing that hundreds of dollars of unauthorized fees have appeared on recent bills.

E-ZPass  Billing Error Reportedly Caused Incorrect Charges

"For me, $250 gone", shared one Ulster County resident. "They got me for over $300. The representative told me 3-4 weeks before I would see my refund!", shared another. While the charges are understandably frustrating, at least one Hudson Valley resident was hopeful after speaking with E-ZPass representatives. "I was hit with over $300 on fees between October 10-12... I called [customer service] and they were very responsive", they shared.

The toll road landscape looks much different in New York State after the last bridge toll booth was removed in the Hudson Valley in 2022, making the transition to cashless billing complete. While tolls by mail use license plate scanning technology, E-ZPass has widely been considered the more convenient and cost-effective option, especially with the NYSBA Commuter Plan.
