Serious Multi-Vehicle Accident in Fishkill, Helicopter Response

Around 9:20pm on Wednesday, July 23rd, a dispatch call was received for a serious motor vehicle crash in Fishkill on Route 9 in the area of Clove Road and Carol Lane, just south of the old Dutchess Mall heading towards Cold Spring.

The serious accident involved a total of four vehicles, and the initial call indicated possible ejection and an entrapment in one of the vehicles.

Rombout Fire Company, upon arrival, put in a request for an MCI, a Mass Casualty Incident to be established, that call then added response from Phillipstown EMS (Putnam), Garrison EMS (Putnam), Putnam County Medic 2, City of Beacon Medic 1. In addition, helicopter response was requested for Regional Medivac was contacted, and a secondary one placed on standby.

The helicopter landing zone was established at the Dutchess Mall under the coordination of Robout Fire Chief Marino and the Village of Fishkill.

Extraction, Two Medical Helicopters at Fishkill Crash

One patient required extraction, which took approximately 17 minutes in total under the direction of Rombout 62-55. While the extraction was taking place, several patients were being triaged and stabilized on site, and two medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene.

According to Rombout Fire, Lifenet Air 2 transported a patient to a local regional trauma center for 'advanced care.'

Rombout Fire Chief Marino shared the statement below, and also thanked and commended all the agencies that assisted on site including Dutchess 911, North Highlands (Putnam), Village of Fishkill, Town of Fishkill Police, New York State Police, Town of Fishkill EMS, Empress EMS, Town of Fishkill Medic 9, City of Beacon Medic 1, Phillipstown EMS, Putnam County Medic 2, Garrison EMS, Kent EMS, Lifenet Air 2, Hackensack Air, Dutchess County Cars 7, 13, 71, and Putnam County Car 2.

We commend our crews for their swift and professional response under difficult circumstances. The coordinated efforts between our firefighters, EMS, and air medical teams played a vital role in providing immediate and advanced care to those injured.

The road was closed to traffic for several hours following the accident, and reopened for travel just before 2:30am. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
