Hudson Valley Towns Offering Free Parking for the Holidays
This holiday season, several cities and towns across the Hudson Valley are using a special technique to welcome shoppers from across the region, offering free parking during their visit.
The idea not only saves visitors money, but can encourage more traffic to small businesses. It's become so popular that it's leading residents to wonder why more neighborhoods aren't doing the same thing.
Free Holiday Parking in the Hudson Valley
"New Paltz, take note", wrote a Hudson Valley resident on Facebook. The "note" they were referencing was the fact that their neighbor to the north, Saugerties, was decommissioning their parking meters in December (below)... and they're not alone.
Free 2-Hour Holiday Parking in Kingston, NY
The City of Kingston also recently announced plans to make two-hour public parking free between December 14th and January 1st. Luckily for residents on the other side of the Hudson River, Ulster County isn't the only place to have such a generous programs.
Free Holiday Parking in Hudson, NY
The City of Hudson, NY in Columbia County has also announced free metered and municipal holiday parking. Seemingly taking it a step further than Kingston, free parking in Hudson lasts the entire month of December, with no published limit on parking times.
Anecdotal reports shared that the Village of Warwick also participates in free holiday parking, and some New Paltz residents claimed that while there was no publicized free parking in 2024, the town had done something similar in the past. Check out some worthwhile local businesses to visit below.
