The wait is (almost) over for Hudson Valley residents eagerly waiting for Orange County's newest grocery store to open their doors.
Many Newburgh local received mailers in recent days advertising the opening date for the locally-owned store located on North Plank Rd... but the wait might not be that long.

In 2024, Big Lots closed (and then relocated) their Newburgh store, leaving many shoppers wondering who would fill the large retail space at 59 North Plank Road. The answer was a New York-based grocery chain.
Opening Date(s) for Freshtown Marketplace in Newburgh, NY
Freshtown Marketplace, which also operates as Foodtown, has locations in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Its first Mid-Hudson Valley location was set to open on Friday February 21st... but according to new information, that date could come even earlier.

While signs on Freshtown's front door still refer to active interviews for open positions (below), and employee outside mentioned that the store had potentially set an earlier opening target date of Wednesday, February 19th.
New York-Based Supermarket Chain Coming to Orange County, NY
Parent company PSK Supermarkets have stores in Dutchess, Columbia, Putnam, and Sullivan counties as well as locations in New York City. The new Freshtown Marketplace will be the company's first store in Orange County. It is also one of the few New York grocery chains that is employee-owned.

PSK Supermarkets President Noah Katz has said he hopes that residents will experience the "best of both worlds" at the new Newburgh location, referring to the experience of shopping at a locally-based supermarket that still has the buying power of a bigger chain.
