“Get The F#@k Outta My Way!” New York’s Unique Driving Culture
Being from Connecticut, I'm used to people driving badly. I noticed there are many similarities to the drivers of the Empire State. Here are the top five:
1) You're going to get the finger
Maybe this a way people around here say hello? I've never seen people use it as much as in New York and hey, if it makes you feel better do what you need to do. I am very liberal with this time honored gesture.
2) You're going to get honked at....a lot
Maybe this is another way of saying hello? New Yorkers just love to lay on their horns to let others know just how awful at driving they really are. You had better slam on the gas the very second the light turns green or it's a honking.
3) People are going to tailgate you
Maybe people like the thrill of driving that close to someone or they want to see what you're doing? Not exactly sure why this is popular but you better get used to it driving around here. It must make people feel good for a few seconds and they can pretend they're Vin Diesel.
4) People are going to cut you off
I guess it's become every man for themselves around here on the roadways. Look out for people who need to get to their destination first. Their destination is more important than yours.
5) People are going to park badly
Maybe we all need to take another course on how to park? It seems like it's getting pretty bad in the parking lots these days. There seems to be a lot of confusion on what "good parking" and "bad parking" is. I don't think parallel parking was ever taught in this state.
I've also noticed that the closer to NYC you get, the worse the drivers are.
