Governor Cuomo and the NYS DMV are making some changes to your drivers license. Will you notice? Probably not. The Department of Motor Vehicles is getting updates to its facial recognition software, all to help combat those trying to perpetrate identity theft.

The update, which has already taken place, will allow the DMV to double the amount of recognition points on a persons face, from the current 64 recognized points to 128. The DMV will put this information to use when a person tries to get a license, when the photo is taken, it will be scanned through the system looking for identifying features. According to the BrooklynEagle.com,  even with the former version of the software, the DMV was able to keep over 3,000 people from getting a license with their face and someone elses identity. The goal is to continue to prevent persons from being able to have multiple licenses and identities.

According to the NYPost.com, Governor Cuomo said, “New York has quickly become a national leader in implementing this technology, and we will continue to raise the bar to ensure safer and more secure communities statewide.”
