Open Letter to the Person Who Hit Me With Their Car
Trying to navigate your way around the Hudson Valley has become extremely dangerous due to terrible driving.
I'm at a loss for words about what happened the other day and my patience for the aggressive driving that's been going on here in New York is officially done.DONE. Let me explain what happened....
The other morning I was going for a walk like usual on Sylvan Lake Road (there's a giant hill I walk on to get some good cardio) and it seemed like business as usual. I know I said "road", but when I walk I'm not right on the road and I make sure to leave a good amount of space away from the road and any potential car driving by. You can check out the picture below to get a better idea of what I'm talking about.
So I'm walking and minding my own business when all of a sudden I hear this giant noise and the left side of my body starting hurting REALLY BAD. I quickly noticed that the complete backside of a mirror was flying by and it landed not too far infront of me...
It took a few seconds to register that someone flew over the side of the road, hit me with their car mirror HARD and just kept driving like it was nothing. Let me tell you that there's no way this person could not have known that they hit me...between the sounds and impact of the mirror they would have surely known something happened.

A few inches over more and the situation could have been a lot worse. Accidents happen and things happen out of our control, but it shows a lot about someone's character when they don't do anything or even check if someone is okay....Driving around New York lately has become completely out of control and just driving away adds to the stereotype around here that people are just nasty and out for themselves.
What are the penalties if someone hits you with their car?
A hit and run is a serious offense in New York State and it really depends on how bad the accident is and how injured the individual is. The consequences can range from just a traffic violation to a Class D Felony. Leaving the scene makes the potential consequences worse, the fines go up and the amount of time in jail so up as well. Again, do the right thing and make sure the person you hit is okay.
So to the person in the newer sport Subaru sedan with the passenger side mirror messed up- be a better person, you are a hazard so learn how to drive better and I hope it takes an extra long time to get that mirror fixed. My extra squats and leg exercises have clearly been worth it...LOL. There has to be some humor in this because it's such a bizarre story...
