Hudson Valley Gang Member Jailed

A known Bloods gang member in the Hudson Valley with a long criminal history was sentenced for injuring a woman with a loaded gun.

On Thursday, 32-year-old Raymond Moore was sentenced to 15 years in prison for illegally possessing a loaded .38 caliber firearm.

Moore used the gun to injure a woman on Fair Street in Kingston in June 2016, officials say.

Police recovered a letter Moore wrote in which he discussed the assault and expressed that he got “madder and madder” because he thought the woman wanted to take his gun and report him to police, according to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.

Following his arrest in June, Moore allegedly told police that a friend, Antoine Wise-Brown, was the owner of the gun and took the gun back to Poughkeepsie after the assault. At the time, Wise-Brown was being processed by police for DWI.

In court, prosecutors presented evidence that included letters written by Moore to his friends and witnesses trying to threaten and intimidate witnesses he called "rats." He also offered to pay witnesses $1,000 to change their testimony.

According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, Moore also tried to get a friend to call his lawyer with a false story, in hopes the friend would deliver the made-up story at Moore’s trial. The friend was convicted for tampering with a witness. In a letter to another friend from Poughkeepsie, Moore said he didn’t regret what he did, but wished he got away with it.

The jury found Moore guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in October.

Moore has 13 prior criminal convictions in Dutchess County in the last 12 years, including four felonies, one of which involved possession of a loaded gun during a chase with a Poughkeepsie police officer, officials say.
