Those hoping to catch a glimpse of bald eagles in the wild are invited to Eagle Fest this weekend.

Bald eagles were once endangered, but thanks to efforts to save them these majestic creatures are thriving up and down the Hudson River.

In fact, there are numerous bald eagles that have made their nests in Poughkeepsie's Bowdoin Park. Bird watchers and photographers regularly camp out and track the birds' progress throughout the day.

This weekend, amateur bird watchers are invited to Croton Point Park to participate in Eagle Fest. The yearly event includes live music, food, children's activities and plenty of bird watching resources. There are bus trips from the park to prime viewing locations, live eagle shows, bird walks and experts on hand to educate and answer questions.

Those traveling from Dutchess County can take the "Eagle Train" with a naturist who will point out eagle nesting areas and bird activity on the Hudson River. Just hop on the 9:50am train from Poughkeepsie, making stops in New Hamburg and Beacon. Free shuttle transportation will be made availble to and from Eagle Headquarters.

Discount tickets are available online in advance through Eventbrite. Adults are $17 and children are $10. Admission price will increase if purchased on Saturday. Bus tours cost extra and it's recommended to book them in advance before they sell out.
