Flooded Fishkill Roadway Now Open For Travel
After a wild week of weather and way too much rain here in the Hudson Valley, a bright and sunny Friday was a welcome change.

Heading into last weekend, preliminary weather forecasts indicated that there was a good chance the Hudson Valley would be hit with some significant storms that would bring a lot of heavy rain, and subsequently, flash flooding. Well, the forecast was pretty accurate and we navigated on and off again heavy rains, and yes flooding, throughout the week.
Some of the rain and flooding actually caused prolonged road closures in the area.

Fishkill Roadway Closes Following Heavy Hudson Valley Rain
During the early morning commute on Wednesday, July 29th, reports began indicating that a highly traveled area of Rt. 9 Fishkill in the area of Home Depot, as a result of flooding damage, had been closed. All four lanes were deemed unsafe for travel between Van Wyck Lake Road and Clove Road, effective 6:31am.

The flooding was so significant even CNN reported on Fishkill:
Initial reports had said that there was no definite timeline for when the road would reopen, as NYS DOT and contractors worked to make repairs to get the road opened again, and a warning that additional forecasted rainfall may slow things down as well.
Some social media posts even suggested August 7th as the targeted date for reopening the road.

DOT Announces Rt. 9 Fishkill Flooded Roadway as OPEN
A little over 24 hours following the closure, the NYS DOT reported that staff was on site 'surveying the damage, evaluating repairs, and planning the safest, fastest path to restoring the roadway.'
The floodwaters may have receded, but the recovery is just beginning. If you encounter crews working along the roadway, slow down, stay alert, and give them the space they need to work safely.

After some back and forth about the status of the road, NYS Assemblyman Anil Beephan confirmed on Thursday evening, July 30th, that the road had been reopened, acknowledging the NYS DOT for their efforts and nothing that there would be 'intermittent lane closures over the next few days' as restoration work from the damage continues.
