Fictional Monster Has Unexpected Ties to the Hudson Valley
Many people believe the origin of this monster is in New York.
You know those legends you get told as a kid, like the one about the Loch Ness monster? I remember hearing this legend over and over again when I was younger, but here's the part of it that I don't understand....
For some reason I thought the Loch Ness monster allegedly lived in Lake Placid ( I know, I know odd). I'm not exactly sure why I thought this or what made me think this (maybe after I was told the story there was a commercial for Lake Placid who knows). For many years I thought this until I finally told someone it's not true and they looked at me like I had 3 heads....
What is the Loch Ness monster?
Since I needed a refresher, the Loch Ness monster known as "Nessie" is a mythical creature that allegedly is in the Scottish Highlands. Nessie is commonly described as having a long neck, with one or more bumps that's protruding from the water. Throughout the years many people have claimed to see the Loch Ness monster, but no real evidence has ever held up.
I asked a few recently and they also were under the same impression that the Loch Ness monster was living in Lake Placid and had some connections to that area. Well, atleast I'm not the only one who thought that way.
Nobody could really give me an explanation on how that idea started or why they thought the Loch Ness monster was connected to that area in New York, Go figure.
