A Hudson Valley man who's been called the "world’s oldest-working barber," passed away.

Anthony Mancinelli, a longtime resident of Newburgh and New Windsor, passed away at his Orange County home on Thursday at the age of 108.

Mancinelli was born in 1911 in Italy. He came to America in 1919 and served in World War II. He started cutting hair in 1924 and continued working as a barber until July of this year.

In December 2018, just months before turning 108, Mancinelli was still working full-time at Fantastic Cuts in New Windsor. He said the key to his longevity was he kept himself busy.

“Well, I advise a lot of people not to quit working. Keep busy. Some retire too soon and they get old fast,” Mancinelli told CBS.

In 2007, at 96-years-old, he made the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest working barber. He was also inducted into the Barbers Museum and Hall of Fame.

He's survived by his son, four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, according to his obituary.

"Anthony wishes a long, healthy, and happy life for all of his family and friends that he leaves behind," his obituary reads.

Visitation will be on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home in Newburgh. A mass will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Church in Newburgh and burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor.
