A Hudson Valley teen is fighting for her life after losing control of her car and crashing into a tree.

On Saturday around 6 p.m., the Red Hook Police Department was dispatched by Dutchess County 911 for a single-vehicle crash on Linden Avenue north of Park Avenue in Red Hook.

Officers found the vehicle off the east shoulder of the roadway next to a tree. The driver, later identified as 19-year-old Jacqueline Rodríguez of Red Hook, was in and out of consciousness and being tended to by good samaritans, police say.

Rodríguez was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated from the car using the jaws of life. She then was then transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie but later transported to Westchester Medical Center where she was placed in a medically induced coma with a severe head injury, according to Red Hook police.

Police believe unsafe speed and wet road conditions caused Rodriguez to lose control of her 1998 Lexus and hit a tree while driving south on Linden Avenue.

Jacqueline's sister, Aliya, started a GoFundMe so the family can pay for Jacqueline's medical costs. In one day over $16,000 has been raised.
