Hudson Valley Woman Killed In Car Accident
A Hudson Valley woman lost her life following a three-car accident Wednesday night.
On Wednesday around 5:45 p.m., the Ulster Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on State Route 9W at the intersections of Tuytenbridge Road.
Alton T. Mitchell, 26, of Lake Katrine was driving a 2001 Ford south on State Route 9W when he hit a 1995 Volkswagen, driven by 49-year-old Ernest L. Breitung Saugerties, from behind, police say.
The impact, the Volkswagen crossed into the northbound lane of travel and was hit by a 2003 GMC driven by 49-year-old Anthony L. Bell of Saugerties.
As a result of the crash, a passenger in the Volkswagen, 48-year-old Helen V. Fogarty of Saugerties, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene, officials say.
Breitung was transported to Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley with non-life threatening injuries. Bell was treated at Northern Dutchess Hospital and released. Mitchell was not injured in the collision.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Ulster Police Department was assisted by the, New York State Police, Ulster Hose Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services and NYS Department of Transportation.
