Intoxicated Man Drags Officer, Injures Detective During Chase
A Poughkeepsie man is facing multiple felony charges after he led police on a chase, where he dragged an officer and injured a detective.
Officers were dispatched to a business on Vassar Road in Poughkeepsie for a customer causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located the man in the driver's seat of vehicle which was parked in the plaza parking lot.
Officers initiated a conversation with the man, and a strong odor of alcohol was detected. During the interview, the man began to drive away, dragging the officer a short distance.
The man entered the roadway, traveling on several roads, failing to comply with officers attempts to stop him from driving. During this time, the defendant's vehicle did strike a detective's vehicle, causing minor injuries to the detective.
The defendant continued to drive to his residence, where he parked his vehicle in the backyard. The man was taken into custody by officers that were in the area of his residence.
Robert M. McCoy, 37 of Poughkeepsie was arrested and charged with:
- Reckless Endangerment (Felony)
- Assault (Felony)
- Criminal Mischief (Felony)
- Resisting Arrest
- Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle
- Obstructing Governmental Administration
- Driving While Intoxicated, and numerous traffic tickets
McCoy was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.
