A new New York City art installation is turning heads and is possibly breaking records.

Extremely Large Hot Dog Appears in Time Square

Yesterday a 65-foot-long hot dog statue appeared smack dab in the middle of New York City. To be honest, stranger things have happened in New York City, but it had New Yorkers turning their head.

Of course, it's not just a random hot dog. There's a story and meaning behind it. The large hot dog is part of an art installation called Hot Dog in the City created by artists Jen Catron and Paul Outlaw. The installation is part of Times Square Arts program.

According to the Times Square Arts website, Hot Dog in the City is "equal parts spectacle, celebration, and critique" while Catron and Outlaw "symbolically supersize the all-American hot dog to examine consumption, capitalism, class, and contemporary culture."

Time Square Arts explains Catron and Outlaw's "colossal frank also serves as a Trojan horse for deeper dialogue." The installation draws parallels between the history of the hot dog and American culture as a whole according to the website and will also she light on topics "such as street vending as an immigrant experience, the underbelly of the meat industry, the patriarchy of meat-eating, and American politics."

Visit Record-Breaking Weiner in NYC Until June

The hot dog sculpture is 65 feet long making it the Worlds Largest Hot Dog Sculpture. Hot Dog enthusiasts can visit the Hot Dog in The City installation until June 13th, 2024 for free.

You can find the project at Broadway & 46th St.

Every day at noon the Hot Dog will have a confetti celebration! Plus, there are a ton of events going on around the Frankfurter including Condiment Wars: A Wrestling Match on Friday, May 3rd which features EWA and Choke Hole.

On Friday, May 10th, from 5 pm until 6 pm, Hot Dog in the City will host The Hottest Dog Show: A Canine Beautify Pagent with the folks from the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog.

And, yes...of course there will be a Hot Dog Eating Contest with Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs on Friday, May 17th at 12 pm.

What's Your Favorite Condiment?

Hot Dog in The City is also holding a pretty interesting poll. Because of course, you need a condiment debate when talking about hot dogs!

On the Hot Dog in the City website, they're asking visitors to cast their vote for "The People's Condiment" asking "Which Hot Dog Condiment Reigns Supreme?"
