
Hit-and-Run Investigation Leads to Arrest of Poughkeepsie Man
A Poughkeepsie man is facing felony charges after police say he left the scene of an accident that seriously injured a pedestrian earlier this spring.
Arrest Made Following Hit-and-Run Investigation in Poughkeepsie, NY
According to the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, officers were called to Orchard Place on the night of April 28th, 2026, after receiving reports of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident.

When officers arrived at approximately 10:17 p.m., they discovered the victim lying in the roadway suffering from serious injuries that were allegedly caused by a vehicle. Detectives immediately launched an investigation to try to figure out what happened and who was responsible for the crash.
Poughkeepsie Man Charged
After weeks of extensive investigative work, police announced the arrest of 39-year-old Michael Baker of Poughkeepsie, NY. Police made the announcement on June 10th and said that Baker has been charged with:
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Physical Injury (Class E Felony)
- Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree (Unclassified Misdemeanor)
Authorities allege that Baker fled the scene after the collision, despite the victim suffering serious injuries.
Released Following Arraignment
Once in custody, Baker was arraigned in Poughkeepsie City Court and, under current New York State law, was released on his own recognizance. He is expected back in court at a later date. Officials have not released the name or any additional information regarding the victim or the circumstances surrounding the crash.
