Have you noticed lately that the Hudson Valley has some bad drivers? The uptick in accidents this year has been incredible. I don't have the exact stats but I am convinced car accidents are on an increase.

Unfortunately, safe drivers often pay the price for someone else's negligence. On Monday in the Town of Esopus there was an accident reported that highlights a perfect example of this situation.

The Ulster County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a single-vehicle accident that happened Monday morning around 8:30 AM on Union Center Road in Ulster County. It was a rollover accident involving a Toyota Tacoma and a utility pole on Union Center Road near the intersection of William White Road.

According to a press release shared on the Ulster County Sheriff's Facebook page the driver of the truck, a 45-year-old man from Bloomington, New York reported to the deputies responding that he swerved to miss a car that was in his lane which led to him losing control of the truck.

The driver reported he was traveling in a northerly direction on Union Center Road when he swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle in his lane. As a result, his vehicle went off the roadway and struck a Central Hudson utility pole, severing it in half. The impact caused the truck to roll over before coming to rest on its side. This investigation remains open because they have not been able to identify the oncoming vehicle. If you were in the area, have video footage facing Union Center Road, or have information you are being asked to contact the Confidential Tip Line at 845-340-3599.

This incident closed Union Center Road for some time on Monday while Central Hudson fixed the pole. Deputies were assisted by the Town of Esopus Fire Department, St. Remy Fire Department, and the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad.
