Large Upstate New York Group Busted For Illegally Camping
Some may say bad luck caused a group to get busted for illegally camping in Upstate New York.
On Wednesday, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation released its "DEC Forest Rangers – Week in Review" which highlights recent statewide forest ranger actions. Included in this week's report was a group caught illegally camping.
Disabled Truck At Perkins Clearing Conservation Easement
Officers were first tipped off about something potentially illegal when a truck was found disabled.
On Sunday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m., the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office called Forest Ranger Snye about a disabled vehicle in the Perkins Clearing Conservation Easement.
Ranger Snye and Deputy Wilt located the truck in deep snow. A tow company eventually came to remove the truck from the snow.
Driver Admits To Illegal Camping
While speaking with the driver, Ranger Snye learned that the driver was part of a group of six people that was camping for two days.

Illegal Camping in the Perkins Clearing Conservation Easement
According to the DEC, the group was actually illegally camping in the area.

Illegal Tree Cutting in the Perkins Clearing Conservation Easement
The DEC also reports the group illegally cut down a tree, as seen in the above photo.

Twelve tickets were issued to the six individuals for cutting down trees, camping in a non-designated area, and erecting a structure on New York State land.
