Shaniece Harris, a warm, loving woman known for her sense of humor and deep connection with her family, has been missing since May 29, 2017. Described by her loved ones as someone who was always there for others—especially for elderly women in need of help—Shaniece’s sudden disappearance has left many questions unanswered. What happened to her that night?

The Night Shaniece Went Missing

Shaniece’s last known actions were on the evening of May 29, 2017. Around 8:20 pm, she left her home to visit a friend in Rock Hill, New York. Her sister, Tameka, recalls speaking with her just before she left and remembers Shaniece making a video call to her girlfriend later that evening. However, Shaniece's disappearance began to raise alarms the following morning when she failed to return home. By 9:30 am, her girlfriend reached out to Tameka, knowing something was wrong, especially since Shaniece hadn’t checked in with her mother, who was traveling out of state—something Shaniece always did.

The Search Begins

Tameka quickly went to the Monticello Police Department to report her sister missing, but was told to wait 24 hours, despite there being no official waiting period for missing person reports in New York. When she returned the next day, the investigation faced more roadblocks, and Tameka received conflicting information. Two days after Shaniece’s disappearance, her car was found in a wooded area near Thompson, New York. Despite multiple searches in the area, Shaniece was nowhere to be found.

Ongoing Efforts and a $10,000 Reward

Despite limited leads, Shaniece’s family continues to fight for answers. In addition to raising awareness through billboards and local events, they’ve enlisted the FBI, who have increased the reward for information to $10,000. Shaniece’s mother continues to pay her cell phone bill, holding onto the hope that one day Shaniece will call home.

Shaniece is described as a biracial woman, 5’8", weighing between 260-300 lbs, with brown hair and eyes. She was last seen wearing a black and gray hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and black Nike Air Max sneakers. If you have any information, please contact the FBI or Sullivan County Sheriff's Office.
