A Bard College student has been isolated after officials confirmed the student has the measles.

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, the Dutchess County Department of Health is working with along with officials from the college, Centers for Disease Control, the state Department of Health, local hospitals and emergency responders to handle and assess the severity of the situation.

The infected student took an Amtrak train from New York, possibly exposing other passengers. Amtrak train number 283 left Penn Station at 1:20 p.m. on Jan. 25 and traveled to Albany and then Niagara Falls. State health officials are advising the trains passengers who are not immune to measles or unsure if they are immune, to seek medical attention should they become ill with a fever.

In a statement from the Bard College website, college officials said:

"...the student community is highly immunized due to enrollment requirements. However, since measles is highly infectious among those who have not been vaccinated, the college is sharing this information as a precaution. Students, faculty, and staff have all been alerted and the college is following health department procedures to help ensure that this one case is the only case."

At this time county, state and federal heath officials state that the disease is contained to this single, isolated case.
