Mid-Hudson Valley City Makes Cameo in Sony’s Madame Web

I just saw Madame Web last night, and it was bad. But I'm going to try to harp on that for the entire duration of this article. Plenty of other outlets are doing that already. If there is any reason to go see Madame Web, it is for this Mid-Hudson Valley city cameo!

Madame Web Swings Into Theaters to Negative Reviews

It's no secret that Sony's take on live-action Marvel movies has been terrible. While Tom Holland's Spider-Man lives over in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (owned by Disney), Sony (who still holds the rights to Spider-Man and Spider-Man related characters) has been trying to create their own Spider Cinematic Universe.

They started strong with the first Venom movie, but have floundered ever since with flops like Morbius, Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage, and now Madame Web. Pretty much the only good thing Sony has put out has been their animated Spider-Verse franchise.

As for Madame Web, I love how Rolling Stone describes the film. They say "'Madame Web' isn't as bad as you've heard. It's so much worse," and it "is the 'Cats' of superhero movies."

At least when I went to see Morbius, I could laugh at the movie and have fun that way. With Madame Web, I was in pain very early on. You can tell Sony edited the hell out of this movie, and it is absolutely not the film the creators, actors, and crew thought they were making.

If there is any saving grace for this movie, it is its connection to the Hudson Valley. Minor spoilers ahead, but honestly, I'm just saving you the trouble at this point.

Madame Web Makes It's Way to Dutchess County... Sort Of

Within the first act of the movie, shortly after Cassie Web's (Dakota Johnson) powers kick in, one of her fellow paramedics is killed in a car accident. Ben Parker (Adam Scott) calls Cassie to tell her that the services for their fallen paramedic were being held in Poughkeepsie, New York.

I saw the movie at the Lyceum in Red Hook, and let me tell you, everyone cheered when they heard Poughkeepsie! Cassie goes to Grand Central Station to board a train heading to Poughkeepsie, where she runs into a guy who keeps asking her if the train they are on is going to Mount Vernon.

If I figured out my maps correctly, if you're going to Mount Vernon from a train headed to Poughkeepsie, your best bet is to get off in Yonkers.

If anyone who takes the train more often than me knows a better way, let me know.

Cassie never makes it to Poughkeepsie; however, because Cassie sees visions of the movie's villain Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim) rampaging through the train, killing passengers Julia (Sydney Sweeney), Anya (Isabela Merced), and Mattie (Celeste O'Connor). Cassie manages to convince the girls to evacuate the train, and that is where the main action of the film begins.

Would this movie have been better if we actually saw Poughkeepsie? Perhaps. Is it worth seeing this movie because of the Poughkeepsie cameo? Not really.

But now, you don't have to go see it because you know the best fact about the movie.
