Flyers, phones calls from residents, and cameras were used to find a Hudson Valley rescue dog that went missing in Dutchess County for 33 hours.

Percy, the dog, lived on the streets in the Bronx for over 10 years. He has been slowly adapting to living in a home in Poughkeepsie for the past few months. On Saturday, a visitor of the home accidentally left the door open and Percy ran out.

Percy was rehabilitated at Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs. On the company’s Facebook page, they say the dog can be scared of strangers. Residents were advised that if they saw Percy to not chase him or make eye contact and to walk slowly sideways towards him. His fear of strangers made Percy hard to catch.

Percy’s foster mother, Darla, was also used to help find the dog.

Hundreds of flyers were posted around Dutchess County and 10 calls were phoned in with sightings of Percy. The sightings helped officials figure out the dog’s patterns. Traps and cameras were set up.
