Time Is Running Out to Ride New York’s Colossal Mountain Coaster
The longest mountain coaster in North America is just a short drive from the Hudson Valley... but time is running out to have a ride of a lifetime.
There's never a dull moment in New York with the right itinerary. While local attractions have their appeal, a quick trip further upstate can reveal an entirely different world of possibilities, including an exciting ride down one of our most famous mountains.
Cliffside Coaster in the Adirondacks
The amazing cliffside coaster on Mt Hoevenberg has its own impressive history. Before turning into a public ride, the route of the coaster was actually the path of the Olympic bobsled track when the games were held in Lake Placid in 1980. Now, New Yorkers are welcome to try it for themselves.
About Mt Hoevenberg's Mountain Coaster
While the attraction is called a coaster, the individual carts are powered by gravity, letting the rider control their trip as they wind down the mountain. Thrill-seekers looking to experience the unique ride will have to hurry.
The coaster is thankfully open for multiple seasons, allowing riders to experience the varying scenery of the Adirondack Mountains. With most of the fall foliage now on the ground, the coaster is getting ready to close for the year.
The last day of operation for the cliffside coaster on Mt Hoevenberg is Sunday November 17th. The ride will then reopen for the season on Monday, May 16th 2025. Here's how to visit:
The cliffside coaster is located at 220 Bobsled Run Lane in Lake Placid, NY. There are also numerous other activities on the mountain including hiking, biking, and even luge, bobsled, and skeleton sled experiences. Learn more here.
