Coming Soon: Direct Train Service From New York to Texas?
Despite countless advancements in transportation technology, one of the most classic methods of travel is seeing a resurgence in the United States.
While trains have been around for nearly two hundred years (and have been using New York's Grand Central Station for more than half of that time), many routes have disappeared. Recently, one company shared plans to change that.
Amtrak Proposes New Routes from New York
Alongside Metro-North, Amtrak is the most popular provider of train transportation in New York State. While some routes, like the popular line connecting Albany and New York City, is seeing some cuts, other more ambitious routes are being proposed.
Amtrak's 15-Year Plan for Rail Expansion
Amtrak's "15-year plan" includes connecting existing stations as well as creating new stops across half of the country, including New York (above). One of the more ambitious routes would connect New York City with Fort Worth, Texas (below).
New Amtrak Routes in New York State
Recently, Amtrak split customers with an announcement of direct train service from the Hudson Valley to the New York State Fair. While the relatively high cost and long trip time might not make sense for families taking a daytrip to the fair, longer routes like the proposed line from New York to Texas could be more popular.

With the lack of high-speed trains, travel to these destinations will still take days instead of hours, but with additional plans to upgrade long-distance train cars, the journey could be just as fun as the destination.
