There's a massive change coming to the United States Postal Service (USPS), and it looks like it fell off the back of the ugly truck.

That may actually not be the right turn of phrase to use as the "change" in question is actually a truck itself. After decades of using the same tired vehicles, the USPS announced a new chapter... but when will it arrive in the Hudson Valley?

New Trucks for the United States Postal Service

The switch from the USPS's standard Grumman Long Life Vehicle (often called LLVs, above, right), is being celebrated by mail carriers across the country, including New York (below). The small trucks, which get 9 miles per-gallon and don't have air conditioning, will soon be a thing of the past. Here's what the new vehicle rollout will look like:

Next Generation Delivery Vehicles Coming to new York State

The first delivery trucks, called Next Generation Delivery Vehicles, were tested by postal workers in Athens, Georgia. While the truck isn't a looker, its high ceiling, large windows, cameras, and air conditioning are all meant to make vehicles safer for both mail carriers and the actual mail itself. Soon, they'll make their way to New York.

While the vehicle production timeline seems to be on schedule, the USPS says it will still take until 2028 before all vehicles have been manufactured and delivered. There will be a combination of electric as well as gas-powered vehicles built to replaced the long-outdated LLVs. Learn more about our local postal workers below.
