Do You Have This Problem When You Say You Live in New York?
Some people seem to get confused for some reason when you say you live in New York.
I'm wondering if you have this issue or have noticed it too...
I was recently visiting some family and most of them know by now that I have been living in New York for a little bit. I have explained to them many, many times that the part of New York I live in is not New York City (thank god) and I'm in the country. Again, I have been saying this for a while now, but I just found out that either they don't listen to me when I talk or they are confused still on the issue.
On the first day a my vacation a few family members asked me right away what "life in the big city is like", I chucked and said "I couldn't tell you" LOL. They looked at me really confused and I finally said "I don't live in New York City and i'm about an hour and a half away from there". A few days later the same exact questions were asked AGAIN and I answered the same way....
More people started saying things as my trip went on like, "You must live a very fast-paced life out there", "There must be so much to do out there". "I'm surprised you'd live in such a big city and drive in it". LOL UGH. I kept explaining myself when people would make comments like that, but after a bit I just stayed silent and said nothing because clearly no one was getting it lol. I wish you saw my face because I looked confused and frustrated all in one when this kept happening to me.
I do have to admit before living here I probably thought the same thing HA. Needless to say my family thinks I live in New York City and I don't think I'm changing their minds anytime soon unfortunately.
Do you have this happen to you when you tell people you live in New York? How would you describe the Hudson Valley to people who aren't from around here? Share your answers with us on the station app:
