With Spring weather around the corner, many New Yorkers are glad to put winter in their rearview mirror. Depending on location, some may be happier to say goodbye to snow than others.

It was an interesting season for snow in New York. While every area experienced some type of snowfall, certain towns were absolutely blanketed with feet and feet of powder. The story is pretty clear when looking at totals from across the state.

2024-2025 Snowfall Totals for Syracuse, NY

In central New York, Syracuse experienced an average amount of snowfall... but that's not to say that it wasn't significant. In the 2024-2025 season, the city saw roughly 109.7 inches of snow (nearly 10 feet), which was just less than an inch shy of the 110.5 inch annual average.

2024-2025 Snowfall Totals for Binghamton and Buffalo, NY

Both Binghamton and Buffalo, NY experienced roughly the same amount of snowfall at 76.1 inches and 76.5 inches, respectively. This was under Buffalo's annual average of 84.2 inches but over Binghamton's 70.3-inch average. But what about closer to the Hudson Valley?

2024-2025 Snowfall Totals for Albany and New York City

In the capital region, Albany, NY experienced snowfall totals just slightly below their 48.6-inch annual average. In New York City, 12.9 inches of snowfall for the 2024-2025 season was just half of the usual average of 25.9 inches.

Lake Effect Snow in New York State

In other New York towns, like Copenhagen, NY and other areas near the great lakes experienced "lake effect snow" - where the combination of cold air from Canada and warmer temperatures of the great lakes combine for stunning snowfall totals. Check out some New York snow records below.
